2024 Round Two Recap

And suddenly, Round Two is over and I’m scrambling to write a newsletter on Christmas Eve morning before the festivities begin. Feels like the perfect week to skip my duty to the league, but there’s a lot to go over and I’ve made it through the whole year for once, so it’s time to set aside my Christmas tasks and get writing!

[One of my contributions to dessert.]
[One of my contributions to dinner. Haven’t had my hands on that many balls since that weird college phase.]

So I’m risking my wife’s rage mostly because somehow, some way, I made it into the playoffs and have a chance to ascend to 2nd place yet again. The only thing standing in my way was former champ, Growler Prowler, who has ridden the Ravens offense all season long with great success. And hey, it worked again this week with Jackson-Henry scoring 40 points on Saturday and putting Scott way ahead. Fortunately for me, not only did my RBs and QBs come to play in Round Two, but Scott had a couple misses from BRob and Penix, letting my QB Farm Team sneak past 145.66 – 115.76, putting my goal clearly in sight.

The only other question is which former champ would be joining me in the Super Bowl. It looked to be a tight matchup before the week even began, and I assume both Evil Empire and Urban Achievers felt that pressure; both squads like to chirp, but it was unbelievably quiet in the lead-up to game time.

After watching how the week went, I can see why neither owner wanted to tempt the fantasy gods. The Empire started out hot after JT chose this week to explode, going for almost 40 points by himself. It was originally looking ugly for Redman, but then he got some late-game heroics from Chase, Daniels, and Achane, picking up huge points as time ran out on their respective games. And yet, it somehow felt like Urban Achievers’ 164.86 points (with a 60ish-point lead) might not be enough going into SNF and MNF?!

A deadly combo of Lamb, Evans, Love, and Watson was waiting in the wings to eat up that 60-point deficit and get Evil Empire back to the finals for an unprecedented fourth time in five years. It looked like a done deal when Lamb and Evans quickly jumped out to 20+ points on SNF. And then…well, from about halftime of SNF through the end of MNF, his guys did their best Casper the Ghost imitation, giving the win to Urban Achievers, 164.86 – 139.18, and breaking Evil Empire’s curse on The Terrible Ten.

So there you have it: a Battle of the Scotts for Third Place and $50 in one of their stockings, and QB Farm Team versus Urban Achievers for your 2024 Terrible Ten Super Bowl!

Before I get back to rolling sticky, salty balls in my hands, I’d be remiss if I didn’t comment on a couple other games. First, a heartfelt thank you to The Analrapists for saving a huge outburst of points for the Fifth Place game. His 155.72 – 113.22 victory over Puff’s Punishers got me the better draft pick in 2025.

And last, ZaWood kept the late-season magic flowing, doubling up Packer Hater 157.32 – 72.50, earning himself an extra $15 of FAAB next season before going into hibernation with an absolute rager over what might cum his way in 2025.

Happy Holidays, fellas!

Andy
