2024 Week Twelve Recap

You’d never know it, but we’re on the precipice of celebrating a holiday this week. I mean, it’s easy to forget about Thanksgiving because stores sell us candy and costumes for Halloween, and then at 12:01AM on 11/1, they’re tearing that stuff down to get ready for Christmas. Hell, Thanksgiving is so late this year that retailers couldn’t even wait for the day after to start their Black Friday sales!

As for me, I try to raise the holiday out of its negative connotation (let’s admit it: Thanksgiving didn’t go so well for our Native friends) and take time to reflect. I have a lot to be thankful for: wonderful spouse and family, my 25th year at the day job (with the best boss evah!), roof over my head, food in my belly, books on my shelves. What the hell do I have to complain about?!

I hope you fellas find yourselves in a similar situation. Ain’t no doubt life can throw us some nasty curveballs at times, but I truly hope you and yours are doing well, that you have a wonderful holiday season no matter how you celebrate, and that you have waaaaaaay more to be thankful for than not.

This year, I find myself thankful for an additional item on my list: my scrappy little QB Farm Team. Whether it’s the effort of the players on my team or the folks at Sleeper who came up with an algorithm that let me face opponents at just the right time, I’m throwing out a huge “Thank You” to whomever got me this far. Hell, I’ll even thank Packer Hater for the 122.24 – 96.46 victory that further cemented my chances of a first-week bye (even if I did fall victim to him selling me yet another aging vet before the trade deadline).

Safe to say that Puff’s Punishers is most thankful for Saquon Barkley and his ability to pound the ever-loving shit out of opposing defenses. His 300+ yards and two touchdowns helped The Punishers make easy work of Science Walrus, 148.58 – 88.80, officially eliminating Brent from the postseason while making Josh a feared opponent come playoff time. Here’s hoping he doesn’t plant the rest of us on his way to a (gasp!) title?!

Urban Achievers is having a blessed year as well. First and foremost, he’s in the coveted second spot in the standings, staring at my ass in front of him (you’re welcome). Next, of all the picks Redman made this year, he’s most thankful for Jayden Daniels, who somehow scored damn-near 20 points in the last few minutes of his game, catapulting Urban Achievers over Evil Empire, 121.62 – 111.28. The win has him in prime position for a first-round bye if he can take care of business while closing out the regular season. Oh, and the win also came against his arch-nemesis for league supremacy, so yeah…a nice week.

[Not the blow job ole Skeletor was hoping for this week.]

It appears The Analrapists took offense to being lumped in with my squad, being called a team that can’t score and instead is the beneficiary of perfect scheduling. In Week Twelve, Ted went ahead and demoralized Growler Prowler, 139.04 – 121.38, giving the former champ his second loss in a row while also securing a playoff spot for The Analrapists. Not content to rest on his laurels (whatever the hell those are), Ted followed up his trade for Javonte and Andrews with a deadline pickup of Chase Brown. Time will tell if he’s found the right puzzle pieces to make a run…

…or the playoff picture just won’t come together.

And last, we come to Buzzystinger vs ZaWood. Buzzy’s had last place locked up for awhile now — it’s hard to win in Superflex without any starting quarterbacks — but ZaWood is finally showing some signs of life. Loser of some brutal beats, he’s now won two in a row after neutralizing Buzzy, 127.82 – 73.30. The chub is currently at half-mast, and can you believe it, the Woodster has a shot at the playoffs if he wins out and gets some help?! It’s no wonder Zach is partying like it’s 1999.

Reminder: It’s Thanksgiving week, so pay attention to your lineups. Not only do we have three games on Thursday, but also a weirdo Friday matchup.

Happy Thanksgiving, and best of luck in Week Thirteen, fellas!

Andy
