2019 Week Sixteen Recap

My humble apologies for the lengthy delay in sending out an end-of-season newsletter, fellas. On top of having a houseful of kiddos for two weeks over Christmas and New Year’s, my grandma passed away on 12/29 and I’ve been knee-deep in my own work and medical stuff. That all sounds poopy, but in all honesty, all has been well. My grandma is finally at peace after having dementia for 10+ years (so bad in recent years that she didn’t really know anyone any more); my MS symptoms have been much better than they were in November, and I just started a new treatment last Friday; and last, I’m far enough along on a big work project that Scott O. has finally stopped beating me like a rented mule.

Onward to football!

The 3rd place matchup ended up being a laugher as Josh’s Punishers beat the piss out of The Wiz, 147.92 – 96.54. I have no doubt Josh is shaking his head over the couple-week stretch that got away from him during an otherwise stellar season, but hey, at least he recouped his $50 entry fee and brings a pretty solid team into the 2020 season. As for Alex, he’s got plenty of horses young and old to make a run again next year…as long as they can play to their potential and not stumble down the stretch.

The championship game pitted me against Scott’s Growler Prowlers, a matchup that ended up being much closer than I anticipated. In the end, Lamar Jackson and the Brees-Thomas stack proved to be too much for my Christians, casting me into the pit of offseason hell by a score of 126.38 – 118.10. Normally I’d be bitter, but Palmquist proved my preseason projections to be oh-so-wrong, pulling together a solid team of young talent that was firing on all cylinders by season’s end, oftentimes outplaying his veterans. Nicely done, sir. You earned it.

Normally we’d get a break from football shenanigans for awhile, but wait, you signed up for a dynasty! There is no rest for the weary, bitches!

First, I wanted to thank you for joining this league, especially on such short notice and using an app that was new to all of us. I’m hoping you all enjoyed the format, and continue to play next year and for many seasons to come. That being said, shit happens and people move along for various reasons. Please let me know as soon as possible if you decide to gather up your high heels and box of tampons, and duck out of The Terrible Ten. That way we have a chance to find a replacement prior to the upcoming rookie draft.

Speaking of which, I haven’t picked a date yet. It’ll be sometime after the NFL draft, likely in May. The format mirrors the NFL draft, with its order being set by regular-season record for non-playoff teams and postseason games for playoff teams. I’ll set the order and notify you at the same time I pick a date. It will be a slow draft that doesn’t really have a normal time limit (8-12 hours per selection instead of 90 seconds). Drafters are notified when they’re on the clock. It is also NOT a snake, instead mirroring what the NFL does.

I’d like to put together a trophy for the league winner. I’ll be adding a poll soon in which we can select a traditional trophy with engraved nameplates for the annual winners, or start with a generic trophy and allow the winners each season to bedazzle it with a trinket associated with their teams. We do the latter option at my workplace, which can be fun (for instance, one season my team was GI Hoe, so I added a Scarlett action figure to it; another year I was the MILF Slayers, and added a Peggy Bundy action figure to it), but the real trophies are awesome too. We’ll go with majority-rule.

I’ve always wanted to do a punishment for last place. Down the road I’ll do a separate poll for that. It can be as mundane as having to add a “Fantasy Football Loser” license-plate border to your car for a year, or as nasty as that poor bastard who had to walk through Uptown with a sandwich board a couple years ago. Anyway, think it over and vote when it goes live. Majority-rule on the decision to implement it going forward, and then a separate vote on options if it gets to that.

I was under the impression I’d be able to let waivers keep rolling for a week or two after the season, but Sleeper transitioned to 2020 as soon as our Super Bowl was finished. So, as of now, waivers and free agency are off. It appears that trades are back on. I think I’ll probably leave it this way for now, and then reinstate free agency later in the summer. However, I’m open to other ideas. Drop a note on the Sleeper chat to discuss options if you have them. Also, let me know if trades don’t work for some reason.

Anything else I’m forgetting? Send ideas, questions, concerns to the Sleeper chat or the email chain and we’ll figure it out!

Thanks again, gents.

Andy
