2019 Week Five Recap

Sweeeeeet Jesus, what a week for fantasy football. I heard it was a record-setter, marking the first time five players went for over 40 points in a single week, and there were plenty more nipping at their heels with a bunch of 30+ point games. If you didn’t have at least one of the big horses in the race, you were pretty much sunk.

For example, Bryon put up a nice point total in Week 5, but ran into 44.70 from Run-CMC, which was nicely padded with other high-scoring games from Cooper Kupp and Kyler Murray, dropping Buzzystinger to 0-5 on the season. Man, that’s a tough start. As a way of honoring the occasion, I hereby present this plaque to commemorate being the last winless team. Enjoy!

While I’m sure Ted will be disappointed by missing out on the aforementioned award, I have a feeling that notching his first win of the season will be an acceptable parting gift. As for Lebowski, I can’t imagine he’s too thrilled with his team’s playoff chances at this point?

Moving on, we had some battles between a quartet of 3-1 teams, and they were pretty fuckin’ epic to say the least. We’ll start with Puff’s Punishers, who just snuck past the Growler Prowlers, 123.24 — 121.58. Scott was pretty bummed that Kittle couldn’t deliver one more play to get him over the hump. Then he remembered he’d brought the beer and Puff had brought the smoke, and all was well with the world again.

As close as the aforementioned matchup was, Brent and Alex played it even closer as The Wiz clubbed The Walrus, 105.74 — 104.92. Now, as all of us know, there’s almost nothing worse than taking a bad beat by less than 1 point. Notice I said “almost” nothing worse? Well, Brent decided to make it mind-numbingly bad by tying his hopes to Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns, who offered up -2 points on the night (and frankly, it could have been so much worse). Afterwards, Alex put the proverbial cherry on top before walking off into the sunset.

Last, it was a barn burner between The Great Scottsmen and The League, but Zach was able to lean on 41+ from Deshaun Watson en route to a 140.36 — 130.48 victory over Osterloh. Once the dust settled, I was happy to see Zach’s sportsmanship take center stage as he tried to make Scott feel better about slipping to 2-3 for the year.

Best of luck in Week Six, fellas!

Andy
