Draft Report Card for Growler Prowler

And so we come to Scott Palmquist. I have to admit I’m pretty damned happy he accepted the invitation to join The Terrible Ten. Scott has always been one of the strongest players in my office league, and for years he’s been interested in trying auctions, PPR, guillotines, and yes, dynasties. Because so many people like the status quo and/or don’t understand the intricacies of the other rules, we’re still just a standard 12-team snake league. *yaaaaawn* Here’s hoping we can breathe some life into Scott’s otherwise boring FF seasons.

Scott (Growler Prowler)

Strongest Position(s): WR

Scott traded with me to move up a few slots — taking arguably the best WR in the league in Davante Adams – then followed that up by selecting Michael Thomas. He could’ve stopped picking WRs from that point on and still been strong, but the Prowlers added even more firepower throughout the rest of the draft, cementing its place as one of the strongest WR teams in the league.

Weakest Position(s): QB

I like both Drew Brees and Lamar Jackson to score big points this season. The problem here is two-fold: first, Drew Brees is in the final years of his career, and second, Palmquist didn’t select any other QBs to back up his two horses. It’s an issue that may not bite him in the ass this year, but he’s playing with fire until he drafts or trades for additional options.

Best Value: T.Y. Hilton

Scott drafted Hilton with the last pick in the 5th round, which was an absolute *steal* when Luck was still the quarterback. Some of that luster goes away until Brissett can show he’s a capable starting QB. That being said, Hilton played under Brissett a couple years ago and still finished as a solid FLEX play. With Brissett having a couple years in the system, there’s no reason to believe Hilton won’t live up to that late pick.

Eyebrow Raiser: I can’t find much wrong with Palmquist’s selections. After tanking up on solid veteran players in the top half of the draft, he then loaded up on a bunch of young talent. I like it. What I *don’t* like is that when Lamar Miller went down for the season, Scott dropped him to the waiver wire instead of plunking him in one of the two shiny IR slots on his roster. Dafuq, dude?!

Sleeper: Adam Humphries

(Prologue: Draft is over, I’m writing report cards, and I have a genius take.)

I was pretty impressed with Humphries last year, sharing time with Chris Godwin for the WR3 spot in TB and coming away as a mid-level FLEX play on the season. Not bad at all, especially considering Palmquist drafted Humphries at 19.10. Now, obviously, TN is not going to be as high-flying as TB was last year. Despite that, I think Humphries can carve out a big enough role to make Scott happy he spent the late pick on him.

(Epilogue: First week of waivers is over, Humprhies has been cut by Palmquist, and I’m a fucking moron.)

Overall Score: B-

My score would have been in the B/B+ range if I had written this right after the draft, only losing points for the lack of depth at the QB position. But, with the loss of Lamar Miller and the downgrade to T.Y. Hilton, the preseason has not been kind to Palmquist. If he’s lucky he’ll strike gold with the large batch of young players on his roster, which will help plug the gaps that have already sprung up. If not, well, there’s always more growlers to prowl for.
